The
story began when its main character, Caraka Pamungkas, was punished by his
homeroom teacher because of his previous fight with his highschool friends. Miss
Ratna, the homeroom teacher, asked him to join the school magazine editorial
staff as his punishment. Caraka felt really frustrated about this because it
meant that he had to work with 3 other school-magazine staff, Nathan, Nadya,
and Sarah. Although the four of them were classmates, but they didn’t get along
very well.
Nathan,
a quiet and cold person with mysterious personality. He was really clever and
good with almost every subjects especially exact science. He could be called
perfect and admired by many of his school friend. But he was really cold and
introvert. He could be really mean with his words and didn’t want to make friends
with anyone.
Nadya,
the student council member and also the class president. A really independent
and strong person. She wanted to do everything by herself and didn’t want to
count on her friend. She didn’t want a help from anyone although she couldn’t
do it by herself alone.
Sarah,
the chief of the school-magazine staff. A girl who couldn’t say ‘no’ to anyone.
She had a shy personality that made her couldn’t reject what the other asked
her to do although it could harm her.
And
Caraka, the main character in this story. He wasn’t really good with any
subject at school beside History. Often underestimated by his teachers. He had
an interest at film and dreamed to be a film director in the future. Eventhough
he was not clever, but he was the type who was sincere and liked to help the
other selfless. He often act before think and he liked to have a hand in other
people’s problem. Miss Ratna said that the personalities of him made Caraka
could create ‘miracle’. That’s why she asked him to join the school magazine
staff. Of course Caraka felt really confused by what the teacher said but he
couldn’t reject it. So, Caraka agreed to join the school magazine staff along
with Nathan, Nadya, and Sarah.
Slowly,
Caraka began to made his ‘miracle’ toward the four of them. Sarah, who couldn’t
say ‘no’ to anyone before, started to be brave enough to reject what the other
told her to do. Caraka had helped her to be brave to say ‘no’ when her senior
forced her to cancel her participation on the writing contest because her
senior wanted to win that. Now, Sarah had started to learn that she shouldn’t
let other people forced her to fulfill their longing.
Nadya,
who previously couldn’t count on anyone and wanted to do everything by herself
also started to learn that she could trust other people. Caraka had told her
that she didn’t need to solve all of the problem alone. He was also the first
one who insisted to help her solving a problem although Nadya rejected it at
the first time. Because of him, she finally realized that she had to started to
let her friends help her. Soon, she and Caraka fell in love and made a
relationship.
And
then, there was Nathan. The mysterious one who didn’t want to make friend with
the other finally had to get in touch with Caraka who had a completely contrast
character with him. Being involved around Caraka had changed his life. Nathan
started to open himself and let Caraka entered his life. Slowly, Caraka had
become his best friend and also closest person for Nathan.
Caraka
found out that actually Nathan was a caring person behind his cold personality.
There was many suprising thing that Caraka discovered about Nathan. Also, he
finally figured out that Nathan was dying because of his brain cancer.
That’s
why Nathan chose to be cold person and didn’t want to make friend with anyone.
So that when he died, no one would felt loss of him. Caraka told Nathan to do
an operation to cure his cancer, but Nathan said he didn’t want to. Nathan said
that he didn’t have any reason to fight for his life so he didn’t need to do an
operation.
After
that, Caraka told Miss Ratna about Nathan’s illness. Miss Ratna said that she
already knew about it and that’s actually the reason why she putted Caraka and
Nathan together in the student-magazine editorial staff. Miss Ratna said that
Caraka had an ability to enter someone’s life and help them. That’s what she
meant by his ‘miracle’. Miss Ratna said that Caraka had to help Nathan to live
on. He had to be Nathan’s reason to stay alive and fight for his own life.
So,
Caraka and his classmates started to persuade Nathan to do an operation. Caraka
told him that there were many things to fight for his life. Caraka said there
were many people who loved Nathan and he should stay alive for them. At the
first, Nathan rejected it, but finally he agreed to do an operation.
The
operation succeded. But because the cancer already spreaded to many organs,
Nathan died one year later. The end of
the story took place at Nathan’s funeral. Miss Ratna gave Nathan’s last letter
to Caraka. In the letter, Nathan said he was thankfull that Caraka had entered
his life and changed him. He thanked Caraka to make the miracle happened in his
life.
I
really like the novel because there’s many value that can be learned from it.
It tells us about friendship, love, life, and many things. The author’s writing
style is also good and comfortable to be read. The story is also simple but has
a deep meaning behind it. You should read it someday too, i can tell that this
is a good novel and worth to be read!
