Gen Urobuchi, god of plot twist |
Anime is for kids. Well, I can’t
blame you to think like that because anime is Japanese cartoons, after all. But,
after you’ve watched Gen Urobuchi’s works, I’m sure you can change your
perspective of anime.
Gen
Urobuchi is a Japanese writer that is well known by his dark style and tragic
plot twists in visual novels and anime. He was born on December 20, 1972. He currently
works at Nitroplus. The reason why I
adore him is; he created stories in my favorite genres. In this season, when
anime is flooded with moe (cute
things that sometimes become annoying), Gen Urobuchi releases one of his work that’s
in an exact opposite of moe. It includes some epic actions and unique cases; as
in detective stories, and not to mention, gore. Well, from deep inside my
heart, I will always hate moe, so his works are like gold between ashes. His
stories are very unique and heavy. That’s why whenever I watch/read his works,
I have to use my brain to follow the flows of the story, or else I can’t even understand
what’s going on.
Psycho-pass, one of his masterpiece. |
The
examples from his works are Saya no
Uta, Puella Magi Madoka Magica (2011), Fate/Zero, Black Lagoon,
Blassreiter, and his new work that become my favorite, Psycho-Pass. All of them
include my favorite genres: gore, action, mystery, horror and supernatural. I
hope he will always create stories in his dark style and prove to the world
that anime is not for kids only. There’re some that are created for adults too,
for example the famous death note.
Do you think it’s only for kids?
